Filicudi - historical summary |

Archeologically, Filicudi is considered very interesting. The findings of the prehistoric village in the Cape Graziano peninsula, dating from between 1700 and 1300 B.C., indicates that the island was populated in the very distant past. When the Cape Graziano culture evolved, the obsidian civilization, which gave so much wealth to the Aeolian island was dying out. The Aeolian population, who had developed good nautical skills, began to weave trade routes over longer distances. The Greek period however, left few traces of life and ceramics. In the fields near Montagola some ceramic fragments were found, confirming commercial links with the Aegean sea. The Filicudi history follows that of the other islands: invasions, resistance, defeat and victories, domination and pirate raids.
