The EcoMuseo della Memoria remembers, illustrates and enhances two themes united by the importance they have played for the Aeolian population since ancient times: the story of the San Calogero spa dates back to the second millennium BC, while the history of pumice quarries sinks its roots even in the Neolithic (5th millennium BC).
Through the exhibition of ancient photographs, historical testimonies and reconstructions of work environments with period tools, the visitor is immersed in a black and white album to discover the Aeolian culture and identity.
A dip in the past that is colored with the vision of the documentary by Lionetto Fabbri (winner of the Golden Bear Grand Prize at the Berlin Festival in 1957), evocative testimony to the hard work of the pumice quarrymen.
The path ends with the story of the thermal baths: exploited since the Mycenaean era, they reach their maximum splendor in the Roman age, to then be rediscovered in the Middle Ages from San Calogero and reach us with their pools sprayed with therapeutic water at 50-60 °.
The EcoMuseo della Memoria is located in Pianoconte di Lipari in San Calogero.
It is open from June to September from Monday to Saturday, from 10 to 18.30. In September and October from 10 to 14 and from November to May it is open on request.
