How to Get Around Lipari

We are in Lipari. From the port of Sottomonastero, you can continue to your accommodation by taxi or bus.

Bus

Urso buses connect the center of Lipari with the hamlets of Canneto, Acquacalda, Quattropani, and Pianoconte. Bus services are frequent, although timetables may vary. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office at the port of Sottomonastero, where the bus station is located.

From June to August, many tourists visit the island of Lipari, so long queues at the bus terminal are quite likely.

Taxi

Taxis are available at the port of Sottomonastero and in the areas with the highest tourist traffic. They can also be hailed along the road or booked by phone. Taxi drivers in the Aeolian Islands are generally courteous and helpful.

They can also act as friendly local guides, especially if you have limited time and want to see the island on a quick visit. Fares are metered. For an island tour, however, the price can be negotiated each time, depending on various factors such as the season, duration, and itinerary.

Scooter and Bicycle

You can rent a scooter or a bicycle. They can be hired for a few hours, for a full day, or for several days. In the latter case, it is often possible to reach a satisfactory agreement with the rental owners.

Organized Tours

You may also choose to visit the Aeolian archipelago by sea with organized tours. The average duration varies depending on the destination.

If you arrive in the Aeolian Islands on your own boat, you can moor at the port of Salina and at the floating piers in Lipari and Vulcano. Here you will find all the services you may need. If you choose to anchor offshore, always remain at least 300 meters from the coast.
