Located just off the north-east coast of Sicily, the Aeolian archipelago with its seven volcanic islands is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Aeolian islands are very different from each other.
They range from quiet and sparsely populated ones such as Alicudi, Filicudi and Salina, to those full of life and entertainment such as Panarea and Lipari to the wild and unspoiled islands of Stromboli and Vulcano.
